The Materials Research Society of India (MRSI), headquartered in Bangalore, is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to the advancement of interdisciplinary materials research and technology. Established in 1989, MRSI has grown to become India's foremost society bringing together scientists, engineers, and industry professionals working in all areas of materials science.
Our mission is to foster the exchange of information and ideas on the synthesis, characterization, processing, and application of materials across traditional boundaries. We actively promote education, career development, and public awareness of the critical role materials play in societal progress, sustainability, and economic development.
MRSI operates through regional chapters across India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad, each organizing local seminars, workshops, and outreach programs. The Society maintains strong collaborative ties with international counterparts like MRS (USA), Japanese Society of Applied Physics, and European Materials Research Society.
Learn More About UsTo be the leading catalyst for materials innovation in India, enabling transformative solutions for global challenges in energy, healthcare, environment, and infrastructure through collaborative research and education.
We bridge the gap between academia and industry by facilitating technology transfer, joint R&D projects, and industry-focused symposiums. Our corporate partners include leading Indian and multinational companies.
MRSI conducts annual schools for young researchers, student chapter activities, public lectures, and materials science olympiads to inspire the next generation of materials scientists and engineers.
MRSI supports interdisciplinary research across the full spectrum of materials science and engineering, from fundamental discovery to applied technology.
Photovoltaics, batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors, thermoelectrics, hydrogen storage materials, and materials for energy-efficient systems. Research focuses on improving efficiency, sustainability, and scalability.
Semiconductors, dielectrics, optoelectronic materials, 2D materials (graphene, MXenes), quantum materials, and materials for next-generation computing and communication technologies.
Biocompatible materials, tissue engineering scaffolds, drug delivery systems, biosensors, and antimicrobial surfaces. Emphasis on regenerative medicine and diagnostic technologies.
Lightweight alloys, high-temperature materials, composites, cementitious materials, and materials for circular economy including recycling, biodegradability, and life-cycle assessment.
Synthesis, functionalization, and advanced characterization of nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanowires, and nanoporous materials using state-of-the-art microscopy, spectroscopy, and diffraction techniques.
Additive manufacturing (3D printing), advanced coatings, thin film deposition, precision machining, and intelligent manufacturing processes for high-performance materials.
MRSI administers several research funding programs in collaboration with government agencies (DST, DBT, MeitY) and industry partners. Key initiatives include:
Proposals are peer-reviewed by expert panels comprising academic and industry experts. MRSI also provides access to centralized characterization facilities through its partner networks.
MRSI publishes high-quality journals, conference proceedings, and technical newsletters to disseminate cutting-edge materials research.
